Grand Round in Luminal Disorders The Ceylon College of Physicians (CCP), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology (SLSG), successfully conducted the CCP Specialty Update in Gastroenterology – Grand Round in Luminal Disorders on 9 June 2026 at the ClinMARC Auditorium. The programme featured two engaging symposia covering common and challenging luminal gastrointestinal disorders, including bloody diarrhoea, chronic abdominal pain with diarrhoea, lower GI disorders, functional diarrhoea, upper GI bleeding, and dysphagia. Renowned gastroenterologists from across Sri Lanka delivered evidence-based, practical updates, followed by an interactive expert panel discussion that stimulated insightful clinical dialogue. Through collaborative educational initiatives such as this, CCP and SLSG continue to strengthen postgraduate medical education, promote excellence in patient care, and advance the practice of gastroenterology in Sri Lanka.

Global Fatty Liver Day 2026 – Sri Lanka The Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology successfully marked Global Fatty Liver Day 2026 on 13th June at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, industry partners and advocates to raise awareness of metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), a growing public health challenge in Sri Lanka and worldwide. The event commenced with the participation of distinguished guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Health. Scientific sessions featured insightful presentations by leading Gastroenterologists on the evolving epidemiology of MASLD and the critical role of lifestyle medicine in its prevention and management. An engaging discussion session provided an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and explore practical strategies to address the increasing burden of fatty liver disease. The Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology remains committed to advancing education, awareness, research and advocacy in liver health, while fostering collaborative efforts to prevent and manage MASLD across the country.

Grand Rounds in Hepatology 2.0 The Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology successfully conducted Grand Rounds in Hepatology 2.0 on 13th June 2026 at the ClinMARC Auditorium, NHSL, Colombo. The programme brought together gastroenterologists, physicans, trainees and healthcare professionals for a comprehensive update on the diagnosis and management of liver diseases. The scientific sessions covered practical interpretation of abnormal liver biochemistry, MASLD, autoimmune liver diseases, alcohol-associated liver disease, acute-on-chronic liver failure, complications of cirrhosis and liver transplantation. Interactive case discussions and expert panel deliberations provided valuable clinical insights and promoted evidence-based decision-making. SLSG remains committed to advancing hepatology education and improving liver care through continuous professional development and collaborative learning.

Kurunegala Regional Session – 2025 The IBD Insight 2025 forum was successfully held on 6th June 2025 at The Epitome, Kurunegala. The event was organized by the Department of Gastroenterology, Teaching Hospital Kurunegala, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology. The program featured two parallel forums, one for medical doctors and another for nursing officers and endoscopy technicians. It included a series of expert-led lectures, case study discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions. With the participation of over 175 attendees, the forum served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and professional development among healthcare providers involved in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Global Fatty Liver Day 2025 The Sri Lanka Society of Gastroenterology successfully marked Global Fatty Liver Day 2025 on 14th June with a series of impactful academic and public programs, attended by over 200 participants. The evening program was graced by Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as Chief Guest, whose address emphasized the national importance of tackling non-communicable diseases such as fatty liver disease. Dr. Vindya Kumarapeli, Director of Policy Analysis and Development, was also in attendance, reflecting strong institutional support for this cause. Engaging presentations were delivered by Dr. Hasitha Wijewantha, Dr. Nandana Dinamithra, and Dr. Eranga Thalagala, highlighting the clinical burden and management strategies of fatty liver disease.
